The biopic on Indian hockey icon
Sandeep Singh, 'Soorma', has won many accolades. The film tells the story of one of the greatest comebacks in international sports, after the athlete was accidentally injured by a gunshot.
Actress
Chitrangda Singh, who is one of the producers of the film, says, “Being my first production, I couldn’t have asked for more. I am thankful to all those who have supported 'Soorma' and Sandeep Singh.
The industry has also backed the film. Despite other films coming with huge marketing budgets, 'Soorma' is running in its third week, purely on word-of-mouth publicity. Many cricketers, including
Sachin Tendulkar and
Virender Sehwag, have also appreciated and supported it. The love and support that 'Soorma' has received is overwhelming.”
Ask her what seems to be attracting the audience and she replies, “People are connecting with the realism and genuineness of the film. Also, it has one of the most inspirational stories ever told. In fact, many schools are taking their students to watch the film, to inspire and motivate them. Professional sports have hardly seen comebacks like the one achieved by Sandeep Singh. We’ve had many biopics on sports stars, but Sandeep Singh was relatively lesser known. Moreover, Shaad Ali (director) also told the story without adding any gimmicks or masala. I am glad that 'Soorma' has got people to acknowledge Sandeep’s achievements for the country. He is a real-life hero.”
